Where To Get Howling Wraiths And How To Unlock Them

In Hollow Knight, unlocking powerful spells is essential for overcoming tough bosses and navigating hazardous environments. Among these abilities, Howling Wraiths stands out as a devastating upward attack that strikes enemies overhead with multiple blasts of energy. Tracking down this spell requires exploring specific regions of Hallownest and having the proper movement abilities ready.

Finding the Overgrown Mound Location

The Howling Wraiths spell is located within the Overgrown Mound, a sub-area nestled where Fog Canyon meets Queen's Gardens. To reach this hidden spot, players generally navigate upward from Queen's Station into Fog Canyon. Entering the structure requires careful movement, as environmental hazards like acid pools and explosive creatures populate the route.

Required Abilities and Prerequisites

Before attempting to retrieve the spell, adventurers must acquire movement abilities like the Mantis Claw to climb walls effectively. While it is possible to reach the room early, obtaining Isma's Tear makes navigating the surrounding acidic waters much safer. Once inside the Overgrown Mound, players must navigate past floating Squits to reach the central chamber.

Claiming Howling Wraiths

At the top of the Overgrown Mound, players will encounter the remains of a Snail Shaman. Interacting with the glowing body grants the Knight the Howling Wraiths spell immediately. Once acquired, casting the spell consumes Soul to unleash a burst of screaming energy upward, making it ideal for flying foes and airborne bosses.

Upgrading to Abyss Shriek

Later in your journey through Hallownest, Howling Wraiths can be permanently upgraded into an even stronger variant called Abyss Shriek. Players must travel deep into the Abyss beneath the Ancient Basin after securing the King's Brand. Standing on the western altar room's pedestal and casting Howling Wraiths will awaken the Void to enhance the spell into its ultimate form.
